Israel is preparing to send aid to Turkey in the wake of a powerful earthquake that hit the east of the country. The Foreign Ministry said that the scope of the assistance depends on Ankara's willingness to accept it.
According to reports, up to 1,000 could be dead due to the 7.2-magnitue quake that struck the Van province Sunday. Turkey's deputy prime minister said that around 45 buildings have collapsed in the town of Ercis and the city of Van. Ercis sits on a geological fault line.
Defense Minister Ehud Barak has asked the head of the Political-Military Affairs Division at the ministry, Amos Gilad, to offer Turkey "all the help that it needs."

They have always served as nothing more than a 'football' in the Arabs' hate-game against Israel *.

Just imagine, what if the Arab Muslim world wouldn't be so bigoted and accept the Jews, (not nearly as much as the Arabs are more-than-accepted in pluralistic Israel, but even promoted and treated every so often in a far better way than how the Jews are, who often feel as the second class citizens in their own country, in that democratic country * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *) in their neighbourhood, there would be no conflict what so ever.

Then there are those fricking violent “peace” activists, that is the 'political wing' of this cult. One gullible woman: Rachel Corrie fell victim to manipulation of Arafat's tricks, and she died, supposedly because of “Israelis.”
Which is why, for example, at the “flotilla ship” case (where the Muslim “activists” aboard the ship were planning their deaths as “martyrdom” *) the Arab-Palestinian leaders of Hamas refused aid * when Israelis release boats of supplies. It's all about image, nothing about "humanitarian."
It also sadly "explains" why, for instance, Islamic Republic of Iran resfused Israelis' aid when that nation was hit with an earthquake, they'd rather let their population suffer then let Israel come out in good light. They argue that that's the good 'Islamic' thing, way.

Let’s see, 5 days of continues bombardment of (specific terrorists’ targets) - hundreds of air strikes, and only about 400 are dead?
How do the cool and compassionate soldiers manage to avoid so many casualties, each bombing (coming from that famous “strong Israeli army” which the Arabs keep reminding us) could at least kill a few hundreds if one is not very careful.
This relative success - While the terrible Muslim radicals (Hamas or Hezbollah, etc.) keep tricking in civilians into dying (Let alone the sad fact of “densely populated” Gaza), especially little kids, for the goal of appearing as “victims” and tarnishing Israeli who is in fact the only party in the entire neighborhood that couldn’t care less about image but about saving lives, on both sides.

For many Palestinians, the ongoing fighting between Hamas in the Gaza strip and Fatah in the West Bank has created a far more serious problem: The lack of proper medical care.
Palestinian hospitals refer many of their patients to Israeli hospitals, where they can receive better treatment; but in many cases, even those who are able to get the necessary permission to cross over to Israel to receive treatment find themselves being turned down. The reason – the Israeli hospitals can no longer bill the Palestinian government for their treatment.

The hospitals' administrators find themselves – as do the patients' families – going back and forth between Gaza and Ramallah trying to find their way through the bureaucratic maze.
The end result is almost always the same: The Palestinian government in Ramallah makes the necessary monetary arrangements, but only exhausting everyone involved.
PA's indifference
A. and his sister, from Gaza, came to the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center in order to be treated for cancer.
"The administrator in Gaza thought he could get away with giving her a referral just for a diagnosis. The Israeli staff saw right through that and told us the treatment requires a different kind of coverage.
"The administrator here sent Gaza dozens of faxes every day until Ramallah said they would pay for it… you see the Israeli staff's dedication and concern and on the other hand, the Palestinians' indifference and you can't understand how your own people completely ignore you and you supposed enemy bends over backwards to see that you get everything you need," said A.
Another problem deriving from this situation is that the permits given to the patients immediate family – or anyone else that chooses to accompany them to Israel – are reduced to the hospital's vicinity only. "We literally can't leave the premises," M., a Palestinian who is staying with a sick relative in the Tel Aviv medical center, told Ynet.
"Instead of making this process as quick as possible, they (Hamas and Fatah) take their time in fighting each other…we don't really exist as far as they're concerned. God will avenge all of them for all our suffering," he added.
Aviva Shemer, spokesperson for the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, told Ynet that the hospital "does all it can to allow the Palestinian population access to the best possible medical care. We usually get the Palestinian Authority's full cooperation."

Jerusalem ----July 2....... Part of the following was communicated by the Israel Defense Forces and the Israel Government Press Office to the Israel News Agency.
The IDF provided a summary of humanitarian activity and aid into the Gaza Strip which was coordinated by the Israel Defense Forces throughout the day.
"Despite the volatile security situation in the Gaza Strip, the IDF is continuing its efforts to provide a response to humanitarian needs in the Gaza Strip," an IDF spokesperson told the INA. "Throughout the day the following humanitarian aid was transferred from Israel into Gaza through the Sufa, Kerem Shalom and Erez Crossings with the coordination of the Gaza District Coordination and Liaison Office: 676 tons of sugar, 637 tons of straw, 375 tons of animal feed, 191 tons of fruits, 159 tons of salt, 116,000 liters of cooking oil, 79 tons of bananas, 71,000 liters of milk, 36 tons of rice, 36 tons of tea, 33 tons of meat, 21,000 liters of hypochlorite (a water purifier), 20 tons of coffee, 20 tons of cocoa, 14 tons of milk powder, 5 tons of medical equipment for babies and 10 tons of diapers, 4 tons of reproductive eggs and 5kg of medical equipment and 8433 vaccines.
The terror group Hamas is attempting to restore law and order, collecting weapons, directing traffic and enforcing municipal codes at vegetable stands. But with Israel in control of its borders, coastline and airspace and with Fatah ignoring its pleas for a return to negotiations even Hamas acknowledges it won't be able to go it alone in Gaza.
The green Hamas flag flies over security buildings once used by Fatah. Gaza's only remaining radio station the Hamas-controlled Al Aqsa Radio blares militant slogans. Secular men, in fear for their lives, are growing beards in line with Islamic tradition.
Hundreds of tons of humanitarian aid have arrived in Gaza in the days since Hamas's violent takeover. But the territory's borders are closed for commercial trade indefinitely, all but destroying any prospect of development for Gaza's 1.4 million people.
In their violent seizure of Gaza, the Islamic terrorists of Hamas clearly had no plan for the day after.
Senior Abbas aide Saeb Erekat of Fatah has the crucial task of coordinating with Israel the entrance of humanitarian aid into Gaza. But Fatah's assistance only covers basic needs, and Gaza's exports are strangled.
John Ging, the head of UN aid operations in Gaza, said the world must find a way to keep Gaza's borders open for trade.
"Already we are feeding 1.1 million out of Gaza's 1.4 million people," he said. "But we'll be feeding the rest of them if the economy is killed." Recently, Palestinian terror mortar fire on a border crossing between Israel and Gaza forced a halt to crucial humanitarian aid entering the coastal territory, U.N. and Israeli military officials said.
The U.N. condemned the attack on the Kerem Shalom crossing, saying the attack served to "endanger the provision of vital humanitarian assistance to the civilian population of Gaza."
The IDF said the mortar fire was accompanied by another explosion nearby, apparently a roadside bomb, forcing the closure for security reasons.
The terror group Islamic Jihad took responsibility for the shooting in an announcement on its Web site.
Since the larger Islamic group Hamas seized control of Gaza, IDF and U.N. aid organizations have been sending truckloads of food and medicine through crossings from Israel to avert shortages in the poverty-stricken territory.
Shlomo Dror, an Israel military spokesman, said an average of 80 truckloads of humanitarian aid were entering Gaza daily. Dr. Saeb Erekat, the chief negotiator for the Palestinian Liberation Organisation, stated in a press conference in Ramallah that the launching of missiles at the crossings that are used to transport aid into the Gaza Strip, benefit no one.
"Some 150-200 Palestinians remained at the Erez crossing, but there is currently no intention of allowing their transfer to the West Bank via Israel for fear that some of them may be terrorists," said Tuesday the head of the of the Gaza District Coordination Office (DCO) with the Palestinians, Colonel Nir Peres.
“With each passing day the situation in the Strip will continue to deteriorate,” he said. “We are trying to provide as much assistance as possible, but eventually Hamas’ violent regime will only hurt the citizens more,” he said.

Behind an oversized desk, Dalia Bessa, the Health Coordinator for the Israeli Civil Administration in the West Bank, answers her numerous phones in Hebrew, English and Arabic. One woman needs a permit to go to Jerusalem for cancer treatment; on another line, a report comes in about a car accident near Nablus. A moment later a Palestinian director of an East Jerusalem hospital files his request.
"We got 81,000 Palestinians permits to enter Israel for health reasons in 2006, a rise of 61 percent from 2005," Bessa says from her office in Beit El, near Ramallah. Without those permits, no hospital will grant entry to a Palestinian patient.
She believes the increase is due to the Israeli security barrier, which limits Palestinians' movements, and a strike in the medical sector. She expects even more Palestinians to require permits in 2007.
While fewer and fewer Palestinians from the West Bank, and none from Gaza, are able to enter Israel to work - a situation unlikely to change - Bessa says 90 percent of applicants are granted permits when the reason is medical.
Aid blocked
Karni Crossing, the main commercial crossing into the Gaza Strip, is frequently closed by Israel due to intelligence alleging imminent attacks.
The Israeli human rights organisation Gisha has filed a High Court petition demanding that Karni be open longer so that aid can get through to Gaza. A hearing is set for the end of February.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) owes more than US$1 million in penalty fees to storage companies at the Ashdod Port in southern Israel, since it is unable to transfer containers in and out of the Gaza Strip quickly enough. This is wasted aid money, UNRWA officials say.
Shlomo Dror, a spokesman at the Israeli Ministry of Defence, says that without the international aid organisations there would be a humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian areas. "We don't want a crisis like that," Dror emphasised. "But, if one did emerge, we would have to go in [to the Palestinian areas] and help. But we want the Palestinian Authority to take responsibility, not us."
Gabi Ashkenazi replaced Dan Halutz on Wednesday as the Israeli Chief-of-Staff but the coordination branches are expected to remain the same. However, work with the Palestinian side may improve if the Palestinians establish a unity government, as the military will not deal with Hamas.
Major Peter Lerner, in charge of humanitarian coordination in the Gaza Strip, explains that the army has implemented changes. "Before 2003, we had three people doing this. Now 21 people coordinate humanitarian affairs in the Palestinian areas," he says, "leading to better services and operations."
